Peta Investigates Cows Suffering at Land O’Lakes

Sick cows that collapse are left suffering to die and not put out of their misery laying in inches of feces and urine

Land O’Lakes facility neglects and is cruel to Cows

Cows are left to suffer and die slow deaths without being cared for or put out of their misery

Peta investigated inside a Land O’Lakes facility in Pennsylvania and found intense cruetly to their cows. They also found disgusting living conditions such as pens filled with inches of feces and urine. Cows that had become sick or injured and collapsed were just left there to suffer. Some suffered in pain for up to a month before being shot and killed. In June of 2009 Land O’Lakes checked out the facility and admitted it needed to be ‘cleaned’ but still approved the facility.
The farm owner and one of his sons were caught on video electro-shocking cows who were too injured to stand. One of the sons kicked the cow and stabbed it with his pocket knife. They have now been charged with cruelty to animals.
To make milking easier, the tails were amputated by binding them with elastic bands so the skin died slowly causing them to not be able to swat away flies and let to spread diseases. The cows standing in inches of urine and feces causes the hoofs to have problems and also causes diseases. Calves rescued from the farm had pneumonia, “manure scald,” ringworm, pinkeye, and parasites. Some injuries oozed pus, even while being milked.
One cow had hoof rot so bad it had became detached. Another cow gangrenous, infected teat ruptured while she was being milked by machine. Workers were told to “amputate” it by binding it with a tight elastic band. The cow’s condition deteriorated over the course of 11 days, until she finally died. Peta has video of another cow that gave birth and then collapsed. A day later, she was found flailing and struggling outside without food, water, or shelter from freezing temperatures%u2015the thrashing of her head had carved a trench in the ground under her face. She was eventually shot and killed. This is just an example of the inhumane conditions that Land O’Lakes approved their cows to live in.
Cows are extremely intelligent animals. They feel. The love. There are proved stories of calves being sold at auctions to farms nearby and cows traveling great distances to find their babies. This is common hurt and pain that cows go through everyday. It is no surprise why vegans are healthy and happy. Think of the pain and anxiety that you are consuming. These animals are abused and treated like they have no feelings. Animals are not our property. They love and form strong bonds with eachother. PAYPAL IS A FUCKING RIP OFF PIECE OF SHIT COMPANY

First let me say I know I havent blogged in awhile, nor have I worked on my website because I have been devoting 100% of my attention to building my company with Ebay. I have had a store on ebay for sometime selling odds and ends and a couple of months ago I started dropshipping electronics through doba. Everything I have done is with the future big picture in mind of designing and launching my clothing company the Herbivore Hippie and working on my veganrunning.com website. I have quit my job and rely solely on my money from ebay to pay all bills and it is alot of work but I can work at home with my dogs and work on my future. According to Paypal about a month ago they froze my account and put it on a restriction because it had alot of activity. Now this freezing only lasted a few hours but it also caused my to lose all of my ebay listings and stress out alot of customers that were trying to pay and couldnt pay for their auctions. They’re little investigation ended quickly after they tracked that for every sale in these items I had going into my paypal account, I also had a purchase through Doba the dropshipper. It may have looked like I was all of a sudden making alot of money but the key to dropshipping is volume. You generally only make a few dollars on items but the more you sell of them the more you sell. This little day of panic I managed to smooth out with my customers, nothing was really affected except the over 400 listing of personal clothing and children’s listing that I had hundreds of hours put into over a long time were completely gone.

Sooooo on I go, relisting items, continuing my dropshipping, quitting my job to follow my dream and starting to design my apparel line that I planned on selling on ebay. Let me also add in a few occurences of embarrassment of my paypal debit card being declined in lines at the stores only because of high activity and as soon as I would call paypal and verify it was me using the card then the restriction would be dropped. Well today my little world just seemed to come crashing down around me. I log into my paypall account and there is a restriction…im thinking whatever, no big deal, I have to talk to some idiot again and all will be good. I then notice that every auction I have ending for electronics which I have listing ended approximately every 15 minutes…no one can pay for anything. Emails are flooding in with questions of why people cant pay. The worse part is every morning I order the day before’s sales with the dropshipper. Not only can I not receive payments…I cant make payments. I cannot order these customers items and when you are dealing with electronic items like Nintendo wii’s and samsung and acer netbooks..time is important. It takes the dropshippers a couple of days to process and ship and I want to keep my customers 100% happy with positive feedback I do not want them to wait longer then a certain period of time.

I start to panic and call paypal to find out what the restriction is this time and I find out they have CLOSED my account due to credit rating. Now I have used paypal for about a year, I have alot of money going in and out on a day to day basis…Paypal gets their ‘fee’ for every transaction, I pay my fees, i pay my ebay fees, i pay everything in my life right now ontime but apparently because of the high volume of sales paypal decided to look at my credit report and decided that with my poor credit they felt that i was a risk so took it upon themselves to close my account. Now please tell me what the fuck my past credit problems has to do with my current business that is ran perfectly. I have 100% positive feedback with my customers, this is how I pay my bills, I take this very seriously. i have never had a claim filed or a complaint yet paypal feels Im not someone they can offer services to anymore. The bitch on the phone literally told me that for someone to run a business they should need to have credit worthy of they’re backing.

Here is my nightmare…this is all of my money! I do not keep a checking account..only a savings account with a minimal balance just to keep it open. I pay all of my bills, pay myself, pay my rent, take care of my dogs…ALL OF MY MONEY IS IN MY PAYPAL ACCOUNT which is now property of paypal for 180 days….6 fucking months. they keep all of my money ‘incase a customer files a claim’ for 6 fucking months. Well i sure the fuck hope someone files a claim….I cant send their merchandise. I have 114 customers that I currently owe electronic items too that I cannot order for them because my accoutn is closed. I have auctions ending on ebay every few minutes…it is a friday and i double up on listings due to the high sales volume and I cant receive money..I cant use my fucking debit card to even get money out my account, to put gas in my car, to buy dog food ….pay bills..nothing! So i have been running a very good little business for myself…let me also add that I am a PowerSeller on ebay which you only get by high sales and high customer satisfaction and now my whole business just came to an end. My life just crashed down around me because some Cunt at Paypal decided to run a credit report because I have high activity in my account and then decided to close my account because of poor credit that would be from years ago and let me tell you its mainly doctor/hospital bills and alot of student loans. I have been contemplating filing bankruptcy for about a year to clear this stuff and havent done it. Paypal wasnt fucking complaining when they were getting their fees off every fucking transaction! AND funny…after I just had my self a very very long cry trying to figure out what happens now with my life I start googling paypal nightmares and theres a million of them! There’s tons of lawsuits against them. What a joke of a company we have allowed to have such conrol over our businesses and our money. Im also fearful of legal issues now of owing these customers merchandise and now they’ll have to one by one file claims with paypal to get they’re money back. Not to mention I have an entire spare bedroom full of clothing merchandise and children’s merchandise that I have bought in auction lots to break up and sell. I swear this hit me so hard if it wasnt for my dogs I may not be able to get through this. My whole goal was to build my customers and reputation so when my clothing line came out I could sell them on ebay with more views and higher ranking and also then bring more awareness to the website I’ve been working on promotiong an animal cruel free lifestyle but nope not now ….i feel like my life just came to horrible stop for no reason. I did absolutely nothing wrong but I WILL DO EVERYTHING I CAN DO BRING AWARENESS TO HOW FUCKED UP PAYPAL IS! IT IS A FUCKING JOKE OF A COMPANY. IF YOU HAVENT HAD A PROBLEM WITH THEM YET….YOU WILL…especially if you’re actually relying on them….god forbid your business grows and you have activity in your account then you’re committing a sin. FUCK PAYPAL AND I WILL SAY THIS EVERYDAY! YOU FUCKING CROOKED CONTROL FREAK PIECES OF SHIT!

RINGLING CIRCUS BEATS THEIR ANIMALS!!!

Although this is not a new topic and the investigation has been ongoing, I just finally brought myself to watch the videos. I had been told about and read many articles on the abuse of their elephants but after watching the videos it made me sick to my stomach.

These elephants have so much sadness in their eyes. It is heartbreaking. Elephants in Ringling’s possession are chained inside filthy, poorly ventilated boxcars for an average of more than 26 straight hours—and often 60 to 70 hours at a time—when the circus travels. Even former Ringling employees have reported that elephants are routinely abused and violently beaten with bullhooks (an elephant-training tool that resembles a fireplace poker), in order to force them to perform tricks. At least 26 elephants, including four babies, have died since 1992, including an 8-month-old baby elephant named Riccardo who was destroyed after he fractured his hind legs when he fell from a circus pedestal. Elephants are not the only animals with Ringling to suffer tragic deaths. In 2004, a 2-year-old lion died of apparent heatstroke while the circus train crossed the Mojave Desert. During Peta’s investigation they documented 11 elephants who range in age from 12 years old to at least 52. These sensitive and intelligent animals have spent an average of 30 years with Ringling, and four elephants have each been in Ringling’s possession for 41 long years of suffering.

Here’s some information about a few of the elephants taken from peta’s website article… Meet just a few of Ringling’s unwilling performers:

Tonka was born in captivity and has been with Ringling since about 1989. PETA captured on video an incident in which the 25-year-old elephant was hooked behind the ear, causing her to scream and bleed, while the elephants were being walked from the arena to the train in Austin, Texas, but her brother, Kenny, suffered a worse fate. In 1998, 3-year-old Kenny, who had been bleeding from his rectum and was clearly very sick, died alone in a stall after being forced to perform despite being sick. As a result, Ringling was charged with violations of the Animal Welfare Act and paid $20,000 to settle out of court.

Luna is considered to be especially dangerous. Like Tonka, she and her siblings have also been horribly abused by the circus industry. Luna’s brother Ned, an emaciated Asian elephant, was confiscated from circus trainer Lance Ramos-Kollmann in 2008 and placed with The Elephant Sanctuary, where he died May 15, 2009. Her brother Benjamin drowned on July 26, 1999, when he was only 4 years old, as he tried to move away from a trainer who was poking him with a bullhook while he was swimming in a pond.

Angelica, 12, has been held captive by Ringling since the day she was born. In 1999, a USDA report stated that there were large lesions on Angelica’s leg, and a Ringling employee said the scars were caused by rope burns, resulting from the violent and terrifying separation process from her mother. In January 2006, the USDA cited Ringling for causing trauma, behavioral stress, physical harm, and unnecessary discomfort to Angelica and another elephant who suffered injuries when they ran amok while performing in Puerto Rico.

Assan, Banana, and Baby were born in Asia, and all three have been with Ringling since about 1968. A humane officer discovered lacerations consistent with bullhook wounds on Assan and Baby during an inspection in California. A former Ringling employee reported that the elderly Banana, who suffers from arthritis, was not being given medication to alleviate the pain. Ringling is currently on trial and a verdict could come soon. Wolf Hunt in Idaho

So apparently theres a couple hundred extra wolves in Idaho that dont deserve to live. Below is an article from City Desk in boiseweekly.com about this. This is ridiculous! I have two dogs….one giant Alaskan Malamute(male)Malachi, and one Alaskan Malamute/Husky mix(female)Shiloh. My female (Shiloh) gets questioned all the time if she is part wolf (hybrid). I have had people actually threaten to call the police on me when I have been at the park with them and rude comments made all the time about her. She is the sweetest thing in the world…both of my dogs are. From the time they were puppies they have been brought up around children, gone to the dog park, dog daycare (so they can interact with other dogs), they love my cat and children that live on my street come and pet them all the time when they are in my backyard. People know that they are just as loveable as can be…..however, people that dont know them assume that my female is evil because of how she looks? Its a good thing I dont live in Idaho….I would hate for her to get loose and be mistaken for a wolf and hunted by someone who payed $11.75 for the right to kill her.

Tags for Idaho’s first official wolf hunt go on sale one week from today, with hunters allowed to take 220 animals over the fall and winter.

The Idaho Fish and Game Commission set take limits for the hunt at its meeting today in Idaho Falls. Tags will go on sale at 10 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 24 at all state license vendors.

So, how much will it cost you to hunt for one of the recently delisted wolves? Resident tags will cost $11.75, while out-of-state hunters will pony up $186.

The planned hunt has been one of the more controversial portions of the state’s wolf management plan, which was approved by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Department, as well as reconfirmed by the federal courts after numerous conservation groups filed lawsuits claiming that the states did not have enough protections in place to keep the species from again becoming endangered.

Just minutes after Fish and Game made the announcement, Defenders of Wildlife issued its own press release promising that it would join other groups to file an emergency motion to have the hunt suspended and wolves returned to federal protection.

According to Idaho Fish and Game, the state is now home to at least 1,000 wolves, with an estimated population increase of 20 percent per year if hunting is not allowed. Originally, 35 wolves were released into Central Idaho in 1995 and 1996.

Hunting limits were set in 12 wolf management zones within the state, and officials stated that when limits in each area are met, the season will close. Take limits will be adjusted each year depending on population and circumstances.

The first wolf season to open will be in the Lolo Zone in Northern Idaho and the Sawtooth Zone in Central Idaho, which will be open from Tuesday, Sept. 1 through March 31, 2010. The Selway and Middle Fork Zones in North Central Idaho will be open from Tuesday, Sept. 15 through Dec. 31, and the remaining eight management zones will be open from Saturday, Oct. 31 through Dec. 31.

The Boise area is in the South Idaho Zone, which reaches from the Oregon border to the Wyoming state line. There will be a total of five wolves allowed to be taken from the hunting zone.

All wolf kills must be reported to Fish and Game within 24 hours.

Fish and Game spokesman Ed Mitchell said he’s already heard from numerous would-be hunters both in and out of state, all vying to be one of the few to take home a wolf.

According to Commission policy, the population will eventually be managed to 2005 levels of roughly 520 wolves, which is more than required by Fish and Wildlife to keep them off the Endangered Species List.

Cows produce milk to nourish their young but calves born on dairy farms are taken from their mothers when they are just one day old and fed milk replacers so that humans can have the milk instead. In order to keep a steady supply of milk, the cows are repeatedly impregnated. Dairy cows are milked several times a day for nearly their entire lives. The cows are hooked by their udders to electronic milking machines which can cause the cows to suffer electrical shocks, painful lesions and mastitis. The dairy industry sees cows as nothing more than units to be used for maximum production and profit. Increasing herd size while cutting labor has been disastrous for cows. Most spend their entire lives standing on concrete floors; others are crammed into masive mud lots.

On any day there are more then 9 million cows living on U.S. dairy farms. Although these animals would naturally produce only enough milk to meet the needs of their calves, genetic manipulation, antibiotics, adn hormones are used to force each cow to produce more than an average of 50 pounds per day. In their natural state they produce 16 pounds.

Cows on factory farms suffer from health problems. Painful inflammation of the mammary glands is common. Another dairy disease is ‘Milk Fever’. This ailment occurs when milk secretion depletes calcium faster than it can be replenished in the blood. In order to increase profits, BGH, a synthetic hormone is now being injected into cows to get more milk. This hurts the cow’s health and increases the rate of birth defects in thier calves. BGH may also cause breast and prostate cancer in humans.

Cows have a natural lifespan of about 25 years adn can produce milk for eight or nine years but the stress they live in by factory farming leads to disease, lameness and reproductive problems that render them worthless and they are sent to slaughter by the time they’re 4 or 5 years old. Over one-third of the ground beef consumed in the U.S. is from dairy cows.

MY THOUGHTS

Aside from the fact that it breaks my heart to read stories and watch videos of these gentle creatures being treated like this….milk is NOT good for you. Humans have no need for cow’s milk. Dairy products are high in saturated fat adn cholesterol and have been linked to problems including diabetes and cancer. Do you think its a coincidence that today’s young girls are more developed and more and more overweight? Keep consuming products pumped with BGH and keep getting bigger. Dairy has been taught to us that it gives us calcium. Bullshit…it sucks the calcium out of our bones. Why do you think white woman are so hunched over and cant stand up straight? From endless years of drinking that garbage. Dairy is now also being linked to autism! Veal calves are chained by their necks in tiny crates and fed an anemia inducing diet. Calves are proded adn thrown onto trucks before being shpped to slaughter. If everyone took a stand and stopped this sick cycle then every day products would be forced to be made from soy and stop the animal cruelty and the horrible health problems on humans its presenting. In closing here is a story…

“Cows are extremely gentle and affectionate animals, forming strong bonds with one another, particularly between mother and calf. As Dr. Michael Klaper recalls ‘The very saddes sound in all my memory was burned into my awareness at age five on my uncle’s dairy farm in Wisconsin. A cow gave birth to a beautiful male calf..on the second day after birth, my uncle took the calf from the mother and placed him in the veal barn-only ten yards away, in plain view of his mother. The mother cow could see her infant, smell him, hear him, but could not touch him, comfort him, or nurse him. The heartrending bellows that she poured forth-minute after minute, hour after hour, for five long days were excruciating to listen to. They are the most poignant and painful auditory memories I carry in my brain.’”

STOP CONSUMING DAIRY PRODUCTS. THESE ANIMALS HAVE FEELINGS! EVERY PRODUCT CAN BE MADE WITH SOY OR RICE MILK AND IF VENDORS WERE FORCED TO DO IT THEN THEY WOULD. STAND UP FOR THESE GENTLE, LOVING CREATURES THAT CANT DEFEND THEMSELVES!!!

So you’re looking to train for a marathon…especially your first marathon? Visit my website for the whole story at www.veganrunning.com . In this article I highlight tips on how to train for a marathon. The topics are planning, training, dont give up and crossing the finishline. Picking what marathon you want to run is the first priority and be sure to give yourself plenty of time to train for it. Set a running schedule increasing your mileage weekly. It is important to train with short and long runs as well as some hill or trail runs to build different muscles in your legs. Always listent to your body. If you have an injury it is important to ice and rest. Dont think you can run through it….trust me you cant. It makes it worse. I’ve been there. During the marathon set a goal pace. Miles 14-21 are the hardest but once you get to that point all you have to do is think about the 5K you have run a ton of times and focus on those last few miles. After the marathon give yourself plenty of time to recover. I drink protein shakes daily because I am a vegan but you may find you need to double up on them. I do often when I feel like my body needs it. Your body will tell you alot if you listen to it. I’m going straight to Hell

I am going straight to hell. I’d like to say it never gets old…the constant question that arises when I say I’m a vegan and it’s always the same question ‘well what do you eat? just salad?’ yes…i cry myself to sleep everynight because I can only eat lettuce. ugh! i always find the questions an opportunity to tell the amazing lifestyle of being a vegan but today I snapped. I would not feel bad except the person I lost my temper with a little was an old(er) lady but she was so incredibly NOT a nice person. I’m in the grocery store and this lady is bagging my groceries, examining all of the food going through her hands into the bag. She looks me up and down and says ‘where is your meat? you need protein young lady.’ Now…this wasnt a sweet concern look she gave me. This was an uncomfotable look up and down and you could tell in the back of her mind she was saying ‘you skinny little bitch why dont you eat something more fattening’. I politely told her I was a vegan and I get plenty of protein from my green vegetables, nuts, tofu and I drink protein shakes since I’m a runner to aid in muscle recovery. This lady wanted to argue with me. Normally I would have just let karma do its thing and leave her with some useful sweet knowledge but not today!!

Why is it that society feels that eating dead carcass that we have no way of knowing when it even became dead is good for the body and our ‘source’ of protein? This is the most ridiculous bullshit ever. These animals dont get to breathe fresh air, play in the grass, have any kind of a life or bond with their families. They’re treated like property that has no feelings, no health issues…nothing. It breaks my heart. It is no coincidence that on top of vegans being more physically healthy we are MENTALLY healthy. You think there is no link to consuming animals that have been unhappy, tortured and filled with anxiety their whole life? PEOPLE ARE EATING THEIR PAIN! PEOPLE ARE EATING THEIR FEAR! ! These animals live everyday of their life overcrowded, starved, pumped full of drugs, proded with things, pulled away from their families and never getting to live a normal life. Most animals will never see outside or breathe in fresh air until they’re on a truck going to a slaughter house, sometimes with under zero degree temperatures with their skin freezing to the metal of the cages where they then upon arrival get to be pealed off of their surrounding. This is a fucking sick world we live in that people in general think this is OK! These animals have feelings. They are helpless. I hate the people responsible for the pain of these creatures.

And its not just the farm animals….the people fighting dogs in this world should be treated like murderers as well. How dare you take a loyal, loving animal that would sacrifice their life for their owners and turn them into your weapon of entertainment and mistreat them to alter their loving ways. Shame on you..you sick pieces of shit. Or, how about every damn shoe company in the world. Who’s idea was it that hey…lets use a piece of an innocent animal for our feet. WTF! All of the synthetic materials we have and of all the things we are capable of creating in this world and you want to make this the population’s main supply of an item we buy everyday. Then there’s the fishermen…and especially the one’s that do it ‘just for fun and throw them back’. Let me hook you through the face with a hook, pull you out of the water where you cant breathe, torture you, rip your face to remove my precious hook so you dont swallow it, wait awhile till you’re pretty much not breathing and then just throw you back. I’d like to do this to a whole lot of people. ALL ANIMALS HAVE FEELINGS! ALL ANIMALS HAVE RIGHTS! what is wrong with society?

This is probably one of the very few blogs you will ever read where I lose my temper like this…I truly am a hippie chick but i’m so outraged today. I did feel bad earlier for stooping down to the level of this lady bagging my groceries who wanted to argue with me about where i get my fucking protein and how unhealthy I must be and I know it made nothing right by arguing but I guess my patience was hibernating today. So the next time someone has their sarcastic comment about ‘oh do you want to save the world too?’ my reply is….’No bitch….I only want to save the animals.’

Welcome again www.veganrunning.com . Today I added a few breakfast, lunch and snack recipes. Whether you are a new vegan, veteran or thinking about making the transition…you can never have enough recipes and for me that means easy and fast. The page is started with information on tofu. The most wonderful versatile food you will fall in love with using. It goes with and in almost anything. There’s explanation of what it is, how it is made and how to keep it fresh. For breakfast I added recipes of apple pecan pancakes and blueberry banana muffins with a crumb topping. For lunch we have a creamy pasta salad with artichoke hearts recipe as well as an all time easy favorite of tofu ‘egg’ salad. Importantly I started the snack section. Being a vegan doesnt have to be boring and being a runner speeds up your metabolism so I love snacks! Welcome to my blog and welcome to my website www.veganrunning.com . I have designed this site and it will continue to grow to help answer questions and give information about two topics that have found their way into my life and that is being a vegan and being a runner. Both leave you with a an amazingly rewarding feeling. I quit smoking less then two years ago due to health reasons, started again, and quit again. Desperate for something in my life that would really give me a reason to not smoke I started running under the recommendation of a friend. My page will help to explain how to start running, tips for buying running shoes and keeping a running journal. Everyone CAN be a marathon runner. There are sites to help you set a running schedule and increase your mileage every week and see just how amazing you will feel.

The other topic that is dear to my heart is being a vegan. Many people are vegetarian which is definately a good thing but for me there wasnt a doubt that I had to be an all or nothing kind of person. My website will give information on the cruelty of farm animals. The torture they go through and how inhumane their short lives are. They are born for pain and people consume their pain and anxiety. I had to get this out of my life. What these animals go through is heartbreaking and the fact that humans consume their pain and anxiety has to have a direct link to health problems. Becoming a vegan has changed my feelings, give me more energy then I could ever imagine and just left me a really good feeling about how I’m living my life. Every vegan saves over 100 animals per year. There is talk that vegans cant have enough protein in their diet to be runners. There is more then enough protein in green vegetables, tofu and nuts. If this doesnt appeal to you they make really good protein shakes now that are so good for you and aid in muscle recovery.

I have put together this site to put all the important information you could need being a vegan and a runner. I have spent hundreds of hours going through endless websites and my goal is to make this site easy and user friendly. I will be adding recipes next and this site will continue to grow daily.
